What it is
SOXL is an exchange-traded fund built to move three times a semiconductor index each trading day. gSOXL is a token on Robinhood Chain built to move with SOXL at 1x: when SOXL moves 5%, gSOXL is built to move about 5%. GEARS is not the fund and has no tie to whoever runs it.
gSOXL is a share of a vault on Robinhood Chain. Once gSOXL opens, the vault's USDG is sent to a GEARS operator account on Lighter, as collateral for a SOXL perp position worth about one times the vault's value. When SOXL moves 5%, gSOXL moves about 5%. GEARS adds no leverage of its own: the 3x daily multiple is inside SOXL, reset by the fund each trading day.
A 1x position does not drift when the price moves, so the keeper has little to do: it keeps the position between 0.99x and 1.01x of the account's value and never places an order that would take it past 1.05x. Three reporter keys sign the Lighter account's value; the vault takes it as NAV with two of three, and refuses an old one. All three keys are run by the same operator.
New gSOXL is issued only from GEARS's own product capital, into the gSOXL pool on Robinhood Chain, against USDG. Nobody else can mint it. A holder can ask the vault to redeem at NAV, but redemption is not automatic: the vault pays only from USDG it holds on Robinhood Chain, the operator has to bring that USDG back from Lighter by hand, and a request has a deadline. So a request can wait a long time, or run out unpaid. Lighter's smallest order is $10, so an amount under that cannot be brought back on its own. Before gSOXL opens there is no pool and nothing to trade.
The launchpad pair
gSOXL is what a launchpad coin is paired with. A coin's pool holds the coin against gSOXL, so the coin is priced in gSOXL, its trade fee is taken in gSOXL, and what its holders receive is gSOXL.
That ties every launchpad coin to SOXL. On a day SOXL falls 10%, a coin paired with it is worth about 10% less in dollars even if nobody sells it, and the fees its holders receive are worth less too. On a day SOXL rises, the same works the other way.
The launchpad opens when gSOXL is live, and not before: the launch factory refuses a new coin until the registry shows gSOXL active with a fresh NAV. How a coin launches and what every trade pays is in the docs.
Before it opens
- 01
$GEARS launches on Pons
This site shows the coin's address once the chain confirms it. - 02
Capital assigned
The gearbox treasury assigns this pair's first budget. $GEARS is built so that a share of its creator tax funds it. - 03
Position opened on Lighter
The budget is bridged to a Lighter account that buys the SOXL perp at 1x. - 04
First NAV on chain
Three reporter keys sign the account's value; two of three make the NAV. - 05
Pool and registry
The gSOXL pool opens against USDG and the product registry admits the vault. Only then does this page say Live. - 06
The launchpad opens
From that moment a coin can launch paired with gSOXL.
Risks
SOXL's 3x is a daily number
SOXL is built to move three times its index each trading day, not over a week or a month. Take an index that falls 10% one day and rises 11.1% the next: it is back where it started. SOXL falls 30%, then rises 33.3%: 100 becomes 70, then about 93.3. The index is flat and SOXL is down 6.7%. The more the price swings back and forth, the more is lost this way.
| 9 June 2026 to 8 July 2026 | Start | End | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Semiconductors at 1x (SOXX) | 561.51 | 561.66 | +0.03% |
| SOXL | 201.55 | 174.71 | −13.3% |
| $100 moving with SOXL | $100.00 | $86.68 | −13.3% |
A real month, 19 trading days: semiconductors ended where they began and SOXL did not. Daily closes adjusted for payouts, from Yahoo Finance; funding and fees on Lighter would come on top.
10 percent days
In the year to 9 October 2026, SOXL closed 10% or more away from the day before on 56 of 250 trading days, more than one day in five. Its worst day in that year was a fall of 30.5%, on 5 June 2026. gSOXL is built to move with it, and so is the dollar price of every coin paired with gSOXL.
The breaker
If the Lighter account's value falls 90% from its high, the keeper closes the position and gSOXL stops until it is reopened by hand. While it is stopped gSOXL holds cash, not SOXL, and no new coin can launch. Short of that line nothing cuts a loss early: gSOXL follows SOXL down the whole way.
Funding
gSOXL holds a perp, not the fund. On Lighter, whoever is long SOXL usually pays funding to whoever is short, every hour, and it comes out of the vault. Over the 30 days to 11 October 2026 it averaged about 7% a year. It can be higher, and in some hours it runs the other way. The fund's own running costs are already inside the price of SOXL.
Lighter custody
The position and its collateral sit in a GEARS operator account on Lighter, outside Robinhood Chain. No contract on Robinhood Chain holds them. If Lighter fails, stops the SOXL market or restricts the account, gSOXL can lose most or all of its value. Lighter has set other fund markets to close only.
Weekends and maintenance
The fund trades in US market hours; the perp trades all week. Outside those hours Lighter prices SOXL from its own order book, with far less trading, and the Sunday price can sit a few percent from where SOXL opens on Monday. Lighter also pauses for maintenance, usually on Sundays around 11:00 UTC: NAV reports stop for those minutes and no new coin can launch until they return.
The first vault is small
The first vault is about $60 of SOXL. About 60 gSOXL exist at the start; about 32 of them sit in the gSOXL pool against about 32 USDG, and nobody outside GEARS can mint more. Every launchpad buy passes through that pool. A net buy of about $4 moves the gSOXL price about 3.5%, about $12 moves it about 11%, and at about $38 of net buying, across all launchpad coins together, the pool has no gSOXL left and a larger buy fails. The pool gets deeper only when GEARS adds product capital to it; after the first budget no step does that on its own.
Operator and owner
The keeper and all three reporter keys are run by one operator. The GEARS owner wallet controls the gearbox treasury, can withdraw from it, and can withdraw the liquidity of the gSOXL pool. If that liquidity is withdrawn, coins paired with gSOXL can no longer be bought or sold with ETH through their routers.
